"Our Country World"
"One thing about Carl and Pearl Butler's Country world...it definitely is Country. The Butlers are among the very few in Country music who insist on not changing their sound to make it more uptown. They are Country and sing Country! And like Country folks...they're among the friendliest you'll find anywhere in Country music. Good songs, good folks and a darn good album. Go ahead and buy it!"
This is what Mike Hoyer, "Country Music USA", WHO, Des Moines, IA had to say about this LP on the liner notes. I've never read anywhere where anyone had anything bad at all to say about Carl or Pearl. They seem to have been loved by everyone.
This LP, released in 1968 has some great songs included. Some are Carl and Pearls, others were made famous by other Country music stars. Merle Haggard's "Legend Of Bonnie and Clyde" and "Sing Me Back Home" are here. A song made famous by Freddy Fender, "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" is here as well, a full seven years before Freddy's version was released. Charley Pride also released this song in 1968 on the LP, "Make Mine Country".
Carl has songs of his own on here as well, "If I'd Only Met You First" written by Carl and a guy named Hank Cochran, one of Country musics greatest writers. Also written by Carl is the song, "My Tears Don't Show". A couple of Carl's previous single releases are here as well, "Little Pedro" and "I'm Hanging Up The Phone". How about a version of Jerry Lee Lewis' "Another Place, Another Time"? Its here too and everyone of them are just fantastic. Carl sings with great emotion and feeling and it is very evident on this LP. "Go ahead and buy it."

If you love a wailing and crying steel guitar and hard driving honky tonk bass, Carl and Pearl Butler's music will be right up your alley. "Go ahead and buy it."
Until next time: Keep on Honkytonkin...it's the only cure for "Honkytonkitis" !
