Avenue of Prayer is a Gosple LP that Carl & Pearl released in 1967 on the Columbian label. Carl & Pearl had wanted to release a Gospel album for many years. They were inspired by an older group from the Grand Ole Opry, The Bailes Brothers and seven of the songs on this LP were written by the Bailes'. The Bailes Brothers were even at the recording sessions for this LP and gave their rousing approval of the finished product.
If you love the old Country Gospel music then this LP is right up your alley.
The song list for this LP is as follows:
Side 1
"Tell Your Children"
"He Came A Long Way"
"Romans Ten And Nine"
"Jesus Is The One"
"Watch And Pray"
"Pale Horse And His Rider"
Side 2
"Give Mother My Crown"
"Somebody's Praying For You"
"Avenue Of Prayer"
"Building On The Sand"
"Muddy Sea Of Sin"
My personal favorites are "Jesus Is The One", "He Came A Long Way" and "Somebody's Praying For You"
Until next time, Keep On Honky Tonkin'!

Carl Butler & Pearl Loving Arms

Here we have the second LP released by the great husband and wife duet, Carl Butler & Pearl. This LP reached number 10 on the Billboard Country charts and the title track, "Loving Arms" hit the number 14 slot as a single.

Released in 1964 on the Columbia label, this was the followup to their smash hit, "Don't Let Me Cross Over". This LP also has a song titled, "Just Thought I'd Let You Know", a song that Carl & Pearl sang in the movie, "Second Fiddle To A Steel Guitar" a movie that they appeared in that was released in 1966. It is loaded with great Country Music. Once again we notice those great Rhinestone suits that they loved to wear.

Carl & Pearl wrote four of the songs on this LP. The song list is as follows:

Side 1

"Loving Arms"
"Half A Heart"
"Just Thought I'd Let You Know"
"Sing Me A Blue, Blue Song"
"It's My Sin"
"Dreaming Of A Little Cabin"

Side 2

Carl Butler & Pearl Don't Let Me Cross Over

Here we have the LP that launched a career. This is the LP that has Carl & Pearl's only number 1 hit, "Don't Let Me Cross Over". Released as a single in late 1962 it climbed to the number one spot where it actually fell out only to move back into the coveted spot two more times for a total of 11 weeks at the top! It was so hot, it only needed four weeks from date of release to hit number 1! Pretty good feat !
Carl wrote four of the tunes on this LP, ("Grief in My Heart", "I Know You Don't Love Me", "I'm A Prisoner Of Love" and "I Like To Pretend") and Pearl co-wrote one, "I Know Why I Cry".
Here is the song list for this great Columbia Records LP:
Side 1:
"Don't Let Me Cross Over"
"I Know What It Means To Be Lonesome"
"River Of Tears"
"I'll Cry Again Tomorrow"
"I Like To Pretend"
"For The First Time"
Side 2:
"I Know Why I Cry"
"Grief In My Heart"
"I Know You Don't Love Me"
"Wonder Drug"
"Honky Tonkitis"
"I'm A Prisoner Of Love"
Here are the lyrics and chords to Carl & Pearl's greatest song:
Don't Let Me Cross Over
Writer & Composer: Penny Jay

INTRO: [C] Don't let me cross [G] over [D] love's cheating [G] line.
[G] I'm tempted my darling, to steal you a-[C] way
Don't let me cross [G] over, stay out of my [D] way
You know that I [G] love you, and I'm not the stealin' [C] kind
But I'm faced with [G] heartaches, at [D] love's cheating [G] line.
CHORUS
Don't let me cross over, love's cheating [C] line
You belong to a-[G] nother and could never be [D] mine
I know one step [G] closer, would be heaven di-[C] vine
Don't let me cross [G] over, [D] love's cheatin' [G] line.
I tried to forget you, but what else can I do
When your eyes keep saying, that you love me, too
I know if I lose you, not a dream will I have left
I don't want to cheat, dear, but I can't help myself.
CHORUS

Enjoy !!!

Keep On Honky Tonkin'!
